Opening the door for local businesses to join supply chains

Large-scale industrial projects invested by corporations and FDI enterprises in Ha Tinh have opened up opportunities for local businesses to enter supply chains, from supplying materials and equipment to repairing and maintaining machinery and providing logistics services.

For 15 years, Phu Thai Tuan Co., Ltd. (Hoanh Son ward) has served as a subcontractor for Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation (Formosa Ha Tinh). The company carries out equipment and machinery maintenance and repair work, helping keep the steel production line running stably and smoothly.

Mr. Nguyen Nhat Van, Director of Phu Thai Tuan Co., Ltd., shared: “Cooperating with a large FDI enterprise like Formosa Ha Tinh is not only an opportunity to increase revenue and create jobs for workers, but also helps us learn professional production and business processes and improve our skills and level of specialisation. Throughout the cooperation, we have had to raise our own standards to meet the partner’s strict requirements on quality, schedule, safety and labour discipline.”

Similarly, Duc Tai Industrial Mechanical Joint Stock Company (Tran Phu ward) has for many years taken part in the supply chains of corporations and FDI enterprises. The company specialises in manufacturing industrial equipment for thermal power plants and takes part in the maintenance and repair of many items such as valves, fans and equipment systems at numerous thermal power plants across the country.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Cuong, Director of Duc Tai Industrial Mechanical Joint Stock Company, said: “The company is working with the project owner and contractors to speed up the medium overhaul of Unit 1 at Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant. From October 2026, the company will continue to focus on the equipment maintenance and repair contract for Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Plant, aiming for revenue of more than VND 130 billion this year.”

Also according to Mr. Nguyen Huu Cuong, the work the company undertakes demands a high level of technical skill, precision and the ability to meet deadlines. However, cooperating with large enterprises and FDI enterprises gives local businesses the opportunity to gain experience, standardise processes and build a reputation for long-term cooperation. Ha Tinh is stepping up investment attraction, with many large-scale industrial projects under way. To seize cooperation opportunities, Duc Tai Industrial Mechanical Joint Stock Company is proposing to lease land in an industrial cluster to expand its production, thereby enhancing its supply capacity.

Starting out in construction materials, trade and transport services, Viet Hai Transport Trading and Services Co., Ltd. has gradually expanded to 8 production plants. By proactively mobilising resources and developing production and business plans suited to practical conditions, the company has supplied foundation reinforcement piles, ready-mixed concrete, culvert pipes and other products to many major works, such as the section of the eastern North – South Expressway passing through Ha Tinh, Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Plant, and the VinFast Ha Tinh electric car and electric motorbike plants. Currently, many large projects are being implemented in the province, driving up demand for construction materials. This is an opportunity for Viet Hai to expand its cooperation.

Viet Hai Transport Trading and Services Co., Ltd. specialises in supplying construction materials for major projects.

Notably, the company is not only developing traditional construction materials but is also taking part in joint research to produce new materials. According to Mr. Tran Van Viet, Chairman of the Members’ Council and General Director of Viet Hai Transport Trading and Services Co., Ltd., with the province’s support, the company has partnered with TBM Co., Ltd. (Japan) to research the use of captured CO₂ and steel slag to produce synthetic calcium carbonate – a raw material for manufacturing LIMEX, a material that can partially replace plastic and paper. If this direction succeeds, the company will not only gain a new product line but also demonstrate its capabilities in line with the trend towards a circular economy and green production.

Ha Tinh currently has more than 13,000 operating enterprises and affiliated units. Among them, some have gradually joined the supply chains of large projects and corporations, including the supply of materials and equipment, machinery maintenance and repair, and logistics services. However, the number of enterprises deeply involved in supply chains remains small, and the scale of cooperation is still modest.

Ha Tinh is stepping up investment attraction, creating opportunities for local businesses to join supply chains.

According to Mr. Bui Viet Phu, Head of the Enterprise and Investment Division (Department of Finance), Ha Tinh is resolutely implementing the Politburo’s pillar resolutions, such as Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW on private economic development, Resolution No. 79-NQ/TW on state economic development, and Resolution No. 10-NQ/TW on the development of the foreign-invested economic sector. This is an opportunity for local businesses to enhance their capacity, innovate technology, improve governance and expand linkages.

Furthermore, in the coming time, Ha Tinh will continue to innovate its investment promotion methods and attract investment selectively, taking quality, efficiency, technology, digital transformation, green transition, technology transfer, workforce training, linkages with domestic enterprises and substantive contributions to growth as the criteria for selecting projects and investors. This is the foundation for businesses in the province to gradually participate in value chains. However, for local businesses to become a “link” in supply chains, they must have commensurate capacity. This includes capacity in capital, technology and machinery; a workforce with vocational skills, foreign language proficiency, digital skills and industrial work discipline; and a professional management system with the ability to control quality and fulfil orders consistently.
