Ha Tinh commits to accompanying businesses and creating opportunities for them to reach further: businessman Tran Van Viet and his journey of “going ahead”

Viet Hai Trading and Transport Services Co., Ltd. (Ha Tinh) has built its brand through a chain of high-tech construction materials factories. Behind this success lie the innovative thinking and vision of Mr. Tran Van Viet, Chairman of the Members’ Council and General Director of the company.

Accompanying industrial projects

In the 2011–2014 period, Viet Hai Trading and Transport Services Co., Ltd. (Viet Hai Company) supplied foundation reinforcement piles for the Formosa Ha Tinh project. The fact that a local enterprise pioneered investment in a high-tech construction materials factory to join the supply chain of an FDI enterprise demonstrates the market adaptability and strategic vision of businessman Tran Van Viet (born in 1967).

Established in 2000 in the field of construction materials trading, it was not until 2011 that Viet Hai Company officially moved into construction materials production with the launch of the Viet Hai Ready-Mixed Concrete and High-Tech Components Factory in Thach Viet commune (now Viet Xuyen commune). For Mr. Tran Van Viet, this was not simply a decision to diversify, but a strategic shift: from a “service” model to an “industrial” mindset, from commercial trading to proactively creating products and gradually joining the value chain. This very step laid the foundation for Viet Hai Company to enhance its production capacity, expand its market and affirm the position of a local enterprise in large-scale projects.

“In the past, contractors had to buy materials from other provinces and cities, which was both costly and time-consuming. Anticipating a sharp increase in demand as Ha Tinh welcomed a “wave of investment” in industry and infrastructure, we decided to produce high-tech construction materials right here in the locality to secure our own supply, accompany the projects and create an advantage for ourselves. That was also the foundation for Viet Hai Company’s chain of factories to come into being one after another,” recalled Mr. Tran Van Viet, Chairman of the Members’ Council and General Director of Viet Hai Company.

Starting from the Viet Hai Ready-Mixed Concrete and High-Tech Components Factory, Viet Hai Company has expanded to form eight high-tech construction materials factories, including Tam Viet Hai, Ky Anh, Duc Tho, Nghi Xuan, etc. Behind each factory is the consistent choice of its leader: taking technology and digital applications as the foundation. Therefore, even when automation and digitalization were still new concepts to many businesses, Mr. Tran Van Viet spent time visiting many countries to learn about advanced technologies and production organization methods from G7 countries and the Republic of Korea. For Mr. Tran Van Viet, investing in technology is not a “one-off” story but a continuous journey. After many years of operation, the production lines of the Viet Hai Ready-Mixed Concrete and High-Tech Components Factory and the Tam Viet Hai Factory were completely replaced at a cost of more than VND 200 billion; the Nghi Xuan and Ky Anh factories, though in operation for only three years, were also upgraded with investment of more than VND 500 billion, etc. To date, robotics, automation and programming technologies have been applied at 100% of the factories, helping to raise productivity and create high-precision products.

According to Mr. Bui Dinh Uoc, Deputy General Director of Thanh Huy Group Joint Stock Company, in constructing large projects in Ha Tinh and the North Central region, the company uses construction materials from Viet Hai Company. The formation of a chain of factories right in the locality helps contractors secure their supply of materials, reduce costs and shorten construction time.

Thanks to his mindset of “going ahead and staying ahead of the curve”, businessman Tran Van Viet has gradually turned Viet Hai Company into a “link” in Ha Tinh’s industrial supply chain. From foundation reinforcement piles, ready-mixed concrete and culvert pipes, etc., Viet Hai Company’s products have been used in the construction of thermal power plants, VinFast Ha Tinh, the North–South Expressway, etc. The company’s system of factories contributes to completing the supporting industry ecosystem, helping the locality improve its capacity to meet demand when large corporations come to invest.

From an entrepreneur’s vision to green production factories

Recognizing that green economy, circular economy and emission reduction are an inevitable trend, businessman Tran Van Viet has always pondered how to produce construction materials that both meet market demand and are environmentally friendly. Turning determination into action, in 2018, the Tran Chau Unfired Brick, Ready-Mixed Concrete and High-Tech Components Factory officially came into operation at Bac Cam Xuyen Industrial Cluster, with unfired bricks and roof tiles as its key products. The factory applies European and Korean standard technology, aiming to save energy, limit dust and emissions and reduce environmental impact. The factory helps improve resource-use efficiency and affirms Viet Hai’s commitment to accompanying the province’s orientation of increasing the use of unfired building materials and gradually reducing the production and use of fired clay bricks in the province.

“Every factory was born with the province’s support. The company has been supported by departments, agencies and localities in accessing land, credit, science and technology, etc., creating momentum to expand its scale and fields and contribute to the province’s industrial production index,” Mr. Tran Van Viet shared.

Continuing the idea of green production, the head of Viet Hai Company has made many business trips to Japan to learn and develop a new investment strategy. The company is cooperating with TBM Co., Ltd. (Japan) and Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant to research the use of captured CO2 and steel slag to produce synthetic calcium carbonate – a raw material for manufacturing LIMEX (a material that can partially replace plastic and paper). If successful, the company will not only have a new product but also solve the “problem” of treating industrial by-products and protecting the environment. At the same time, Viet Hai Company is promoting investment in a factory producing bagged dry mortar for masonry and plastering. The product aims to standardize the construction process, accurately calculate the amount of materials, reduce waste and provide convenience for customers.

Not only developing production, businessman Tran Van Viet has also advocated digitalizing management processes, applying management software and building a transparent and professional work performance evaluation system. This is an important foundation for the company to maintain sustainable growth, with revenue in 2025 reaching more than VND 4,000 billion and stable jobs for more than 1,800 workers with incomes of VND 15–20 million per person per month. Regarding workers as a valuable asset for sustainable development, Viet Hai Company focuses on caring for their lives, fully ensuring their benefits and policies, while building a professional and cohesive working environment. As a result, Viet Hai Company has always maintained a stable workforce at a time when many businesses are struggling with the “problem” of labor turnover.

As Ha Tinh accelerates investment attraction, expands its industrial space and gradually shapes a green and modern production sector, the business community in general and Viet Hai Company in particular are facing opportunities for a breakthrough. The inspiring spirit of its leader, together with the values nurtured over time such as corporate culture, technology application and digital transformation, will continue to serve as a “lever” for Viet Hai Company to enhance its competitiveness and participate more deeply in global supply chains.
